
Optical fiber coating is one or more layers of protective material applied to the surface of an optical fiber (composed of a core and a cladding), mainly used to enhance the mechanical strength and environmental corrosion resistance of the optical fiber, while reducing the loss in optical signal transmission.
Core functions:
Mechanical protection: prevents the optical fiber from breaking due to bending, stretching or external impact.
Environmental isolation: prevents water vapor and chemicals from corroding the glass fiber.
Reduce microbend loss: reduce the optical signal loss caused by microbending of the optical fiber through the buffer layer.
2. Anti-Reflective Coating (AR Coating)
Definition and Function
AR Coating is a coating of multiple layers of thin film on the surface of optical components to reduce the reflection loss of light at the interface, thereby improving light transmittance and eliminating stray light interference.
Core functions:
Improve light transmittance: such as reducing the reflectivity of glass from 4% to below 0.5%.
Eliminate ghosting and glare: Improve image quality in scenes such as camera lenses and glasses.
Enhance energy utilization: used in solar cells, laser windows, etc.
3. Anti-Reflective Coating or Transmittance Enhancement Film
Definition and Difference
Anti-Reflective Coating is a special form of anti-reflective coating, but it emphasizes maximizing transmittance at a specific wavelength or incident angle, and is commonly found in high-precision optical systems.
Difference from AR Coating:
Design Goal: AR coating focuses on wide-band anti-reflection, while anti-reflective coating is optimized for narrow bands (such as laser wavelengths).
Structural Complexity: Anti-reflective coating may use more layers (such as more than 10 layers) to achieve a transmittance close to 100%.

Polymer: compatibility with other materials must be tested before use to meet the needs of formulation.
