1. Protective Film
Definition and Function
Protective Film is a transparent film used to cover the surface of optical devices or display screens. It mainly plays a physical protection role and may have additional functions such as anti-reflection, anti-glare, and anti-fingerprint.

Structure and Materials

Substrate: Commonly used PET (polyester), TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) or acrylic materials.

Functional layer: Anti-scratch coating (such as silicone), anti-reflective coating (AR coating) or anti-fouling coating may be added.

Core Function

Physical protection: prevent screen scratches, abrasion or impact damage.

Optical optimization: reduce ambient light reflection (anti-glare) and improve display contrast.

Easy to clean: anti-fingerprint, anti-oil, easy to wipe.

2. BEF Brightness Enhancement Film
Definition and Function
BEF was developed by 3M. It is a functional film that achieves directional light enhancement through a micro-prism structure. It is often used with a prismatic film to further enhance display brightness.

Structural Features

Multi-layer design: usually composed of a prism layer (micro-structure surface) and a diffusion layer (substrate).

Micro-structure density: the prism spacing is smaller (such as 20-50μm), which is denser than traditional prism films.

Working Principle

Light Focusing: The micro-prism reflects the large-angle light back to the backlight system and emits it again after recycling.

Total reflection effect: The prism angle design is used to make the light fully reflected in the film and finally concentrated in the normal viewing direction.

Performance Advantages

High gain brightness: A single layer of BEF can increase the brightness by about 60%, and the multi-layer superposition effect is more significant.

Light and thin: The thickness is only 100-200μm, suitable for ultra-thin display devices.

Application areas: High-end LCD TVs, laptops, car displays, etc.

APPLICATION

 

UV ink: T-6603 resin is recommended for optical functional films, laminating protective films, prism BEF brightening films. The coating is colorless and highly transparent, with high hardness and good protective function. Fast curing and extremely low shrinkage. The film does not warp or curl when cured.


UV adhesive: Applicable to optical lens bonding, optical fiber coating, good toughness, and long-lasting stability under double 85 conditions.

 

 

INTERMISCIBILITY

 

Monomer: OPPEA and other high refractive index monomers are recommended for surface coating. The combination of mercapto monomer (Thiol-80) for LED light source surface printing can increase the curing speed. For adhesive applications, VM-3540 VM-3530 vinyl ether and other monomers are recommended to promote adhesion.

Solvent: It is miscible with ester, ketone, or aromatic solvents. It cannot be dissolved in a single alcohol solvent, but is soluble in a mixed solvent containing alcohol and ether.
Polymer: It can be well soluble with polyester, epoxy, polyurethane, phosphate ester, and acrylate to meet the needs of formula preparation.
